Beaconsfield Fenced Dog Park

Beaconsfield Fenced Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash area on Grubb Street, part of the Beaconsfield Recreation Ground in Tasmania's West Tamar. It is the closest secure off-leash option in the area: a straightforward spot for a run and a sniff rather than a full outing.

The dog setup

The park sits within a West Tamar Council off-leash exercise area, and the usual conditions apply. Dogs must be under effective control at all times, meaning in sight, close by and reliable on recall, even inside the fence. Pick up after your dog, with waste bags and bins usually stocked. Greyhounds, declared dangerous dogs and restricted breeds must stay on-leash regardless of the fencing.

Max: double-check the gate latch behind you before letting anyone off the lead. It is a shared entry point and other owners are coming and going.

Worth knowing

Expect secure perimeter fencing and open grassed ground for running, and not much else by way of dog infrastructure: no water station or agility gear, so carry a bowl on warm days. Public toilets are available nearby at the Recreation Ground. This is a quick, low-key off-leash break rather than a destination in its own right, and midweek afternoons are the quietest window.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Grubb Street near the York Street intersection, reached via the West Tamar Highway from Launceston in about 40 minutes. Parking is free and easy on gravel and grass rather than a formal car park. Public transport to Beaconsfield is limited, so most visitors drive.

Beauty Point, a short drive north, makes a good second stop: Beauty Point Waterfront Hotel for a meal with the dog looking over the Tamar, or Beauty Point Cottages if the park visit is part of an overnight stay.
