Inspection Head Walking Track

Beauty Point's Inspection Head Walking Track hugs the Tamar River waterfront past the working marina, with Seahorse World and Platypus House along the way. It is an easy, mostly sealed stroll with dogs on lead.

Leads and the off-lead area

West Tamar Council requires dogs to be on a lead on the foreshore and the walking tracks. For a run, the council's fenced off-lead exercise area is on the Beauty Point Esplanade near Mainwaring Street, with bags and bins supplied.

The walk

Most of the track is concrete and sealed walkway, with a few short sections of fine gravel. It is flat and pram-friendly, with open river views and marina berths close by.

Keep an eye out for sea eagles over the water.

Water and shade

Trees and buildings give shade in patches. Dog water is not reliably provided along the track, so bring a travel bowl and a bottle.

Bins and bag dispensers sit along the Esplanade parks and foreshore.

Getting started

Park at the Inspection Head Boat Ramp and Pontoon on Flinders Street, or in one of the bays along the Beauty Point Esplanade.

A calm morning suits it best. The flat, even surface suits older dogs and pups, and the fenced area on the Esplanade makes a good end to the walk.
