BIG4 Low Head Tourist Park

BIG4 Low Head Tourist Park sits at 136 Low Head Road on the northern tip of the Tamar River, just past George Town, and it is one of the more genuinely dog-welcoming parks in northern Tasmania. Caravans, campers and motorhomes get the run of all powered and unpowered sites, and a limited number of designated pet-friendly cabins take dogs inside as well.

Worth knowing

The penguins matter here. Dogs cannot join the Low Head Penguin Tour or go near the rookeries at all, because even a lingering scent disrupts nesting little penguins, so plan an evening kennel or pet-sitting arrangement if the tour is on your list. For exercise, East Beach is the designated dog-friendly stretch of sand nearby, though watch the signage where shorebird and penguin zones start.

Close by with the dogs

The fenced Bark Park in George Town is a short drive back down the road for a proper off-lead run, and the Pilot Station Cafe welcomes dogs at its alfresco tables with river views. If the park is full, East Beach Tourist Park is the other pet-friendly option in Low Head.
