Bark Park(George Town)

Bark Park is George Town's fenced off leash dog park at the northern end of town, set beside the sports complex, and it delivers the basics well: secure fencing with a double gate entry, agility gear, drinking water on tap and a couple of benches, one under cover. For a town this size it is a genuinely useful facility, built so dogs can run flat out without a road in play.

The dog setup

The enclosure is split into two sections so owners can choose the side that suits their dog's temperament, one for the confident and social and one calmer option, with you responsible for the choice and your dog's behaviour either way. An agility bridge and a tunnel give energetic dogs a job, and drinking water with bowls is permanently available. Shade for people is limited, so bring extra water for yourself on a hot day.

George Town Council's etiquette rules apply: leads come off only once you are inside the fence, dogs need reliable recall and basic manners, only healthy registered dogs visit and dogs in heat stay home. Keep active supervision at all times, pick up after your dog with the bags and bins provided, and remove a dog that turns aggressive. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult, and after a serious incident the council asks owners to exchange details and report it.

Max: Keep the lead on until you are properly inside the fence line. It's an easy rule to forget when your dog is already keen to run.

Getting there and parking

The park sits near the main town area beside the sports complex, an easy walk from the surrounding residential streets with street parking close by. Weekday mornings, particularly Tuesday and Friday, are the quiet sessions for a nervous dog easing into off leash time, and after heavy rain the grass turns muddy, so a dry stretch makes a cleaner visit.

Close by with the dogs

The Beaconsfield Fenced Dog Park down the West Tamar Highway is the nearest alternative if you are coming from that direction. For a swim, East Beach on the other side of Cimitiere Creek is a solid off leash option outside the summer seasonal restrictions, and the Pilot Station Cafe at Low Head welcomes dogs for a coffee after.
