Bark Park

Bark Park is a fenced, off-leash dog exercise area at the northern end of George Town, built for a proper run without the worry of roads nearby. It has agility gear, a water station and a bit of shade for a break.

The rules. Dogs must stay on lead until you are through the gate and inside the fenced area. Owners need to keep dogs under voice control at all times and pick up after them, with a bin on site. Remove any dog that turns aggressive.

What's there. On-site drinking water for dogs, a few benches (one under cover), an agility bridge and a tunnel for play. Shade for people is limited, so bring your own water on a hot day.

Getting there. The park sits near the main town area, an easy walk from surrounding residential streets, with street parking close by.

Nearby with the dogs. A handful of cafes around Macquarie Street allow dogs in outdoor seating, though policies change so it pays to check first. East Beach, on the other side of Cimitiere Creek, is a solid off-leash swim option outside the seasonal summer restrictions.

When to go. Weekday mornings and Tuesday or Friday tend to be quieter, good for a nervous dog easing into off-leash time. After heavy rain the grass can turn muddy, so a sunny stretch makes for a cleaner visit.
