kanamaluka Trail

Linking Low Head with George Town along the Tamar estuary, the kanamaluka Trail keeps the water in view for much of the way. Dogs are welcome, but only on a lead.

Leads and wildlife

George Town Council looks after the trail. Keep your dog leashed and on the path throughout, and especially beside the Low Head Road Reservation Wildlife Sanctuary, where native animals live right up against the track.

Max: Shorten the lead past the sanctuary. The wildlife sits close to the path, and one lunge is all it takes.

The walk

Underfoot you get concrete in some stretches and gravel in others. Along the way the trail passes Lagoon Beach, Windmill Point and York Cove, with nature reserves and estuary outlooks in between.

It is a linear route between two towns, so walk as far as suits your dog and turn back.

Make a day of it

At the Low Head end, Pilot Station Cafe makes an easy coffee stop. From George Town, the George Town Foreshore Trail carries on beside the water.

Who it suits

A steady, leashed dog that enjoys a long sniff along the shore will love it. Bring water for the dog, and save the full length for a mild day.
