C.T. Barling Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

C.T. Barling Reserve is a big open-space off-leash area along Plenty Road in Reservoir that backs onto Darebin Creek. Two large oval sections divided by a central car park give plenty of running room, and the creek-side trail is the real draw: it makes an off-leash run and a longer lead walk by the water easy to combine in one visit.

The dog setup

The reserve is unfenced, with designated off-leash zones where dogs run under effective voice control. Leads go back on in the car park, on the paved linking paths, and anywhere outside the signed zones.

Under City of Darebin rules, dogs stay on lead within 10 metres of playgrounds and shared paths and off the ovals when organised sport is in progress. Waste bags are sometimes provided but bring your own, and carry a leash at all times.

Worth knowing

On-site you will find a drinking fountain, park benches, rubbish bins near the car park and pavilion, and a mix of paved and unpaved trails. The Darebin Creek Trail connects directly off the eastern side of the park for a proper longer walk.

The reserve also hosts a weekend parkrun and community events, so check what is on before assuming the ovals are free.

Getting there

The reserve sits at 880 Plenty Road, Reservoir, with on-site parking off Plenty Road between the ovals. Buses run along Plenty Road with stops near the reserve, so it is reachable without a car.

When to go

Weekend mornings and weekday evenings around 5pm are the busiest windows. Weekday mornings are quieter and suit reactive dogs, and the creek-side trail gives extra room whenever the central ovals fill up.

Pair it with

The Edwardes Lake Park off-lead area is the suburb's other big off-leash space, and the Bundoora Park fenced dog park covers the secure-boundary option to the north.
