A fully fenced sports ground at 26 Gloucester Street that doubles as a secure off-leash area, open 24/7. The fencing and double-gated entry are the reason to come here: it is one of the few enclosed options in the area, which makes it a sound choice for dogs who like to test boundaries.

The rules. Off-leash around the clock, with one exception, dogs go back on lead when the oval is in use for sports training or matches. Keep your dog under effective voice control and clean up after them. The park is fenced except for the west gate, so keep an eye on dogs prone to wandering.

What's there. A water fountain, seating and benches for owners, free dog waste bags and bins, and good lighting for evening visits. Some established trees give patches of shade, though the open grass is largely exposed. Public toilets are usually only open when a sports club is using the ground.

Getting there. Easy to reach via Plenty Road or Albert Street, with free street parking along Gloucester Street. It is roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk from Regent Station, or you can use the bus routes on Plenty Road.

Fully fenced and floodlit means a proper off-lead run even after dark in winter, which is hard to find. Just bring water, the shade is thin on a hot day.

Busiest early morning and late afternoon on weekdays, and across the weekend. Early afternoon midweek is usually the quietest. Good for runners and confident, social dogs.
