Manly Lagoon Dog Park

Manly Lagoon Dog Park, also known as Lagoon Reserve, is a big unfenced grass reserve in Queenscliff where dogs are off-leash 24 hours a day and can wade or swim in the calm shallows of Manly Lagoon.

The rules. Off-leash access runs around the clock, but the reserve has no fencing, so a reliable recall matters more here than at a fenced park. Keep your dog on lead when moving through the surrounding walkways and non-park areas, and keep voice and visual control at all times so dogs do not wander onto Pittwater Road or nearby properties. Check council signage on the day for any water quality alerts, especially after heavy rain.

What's there. There is direct access into the shallow lagoon water, drinking fountains for people and dogs, public toilets and a shower, dog waste bags and bins at the main entry points, and free electric BBQs with picnic tables for anyone making a morning of it.

Getting there. Drive in via Queenscliff Road or Pittwater Road, though street parking fills fast on weekends. Buses 139, 142 and 144 stop on Pittwater Road or Queenscliff Road, about a five minute walk from the reserve. It is also a flat, scenic 20 to 25 minute walk from Manly Wharf along the beachfront and lagoon paths.

The water. The swimming area changes with the tide. Low tide exposes a sandy strip that is good for fetch, while high tide gives deeper water for a proper swim or paddle. Check a tide chart before you go if swimming is the main plan.

Watch-outs. No fencing means this suits dogs with solid recall rather than nervous or bolt-prone ones. It gets busy with other dogs on weekends and during the early morning and late afternoon golden hours, so plan around that if your dog needs more space.

Nearby with the dogs. Showbox Coffee Brewers, Fika Swedish Kitchen and Albert & Moore all have outdoor seating that welcomes dogs and are a short drive or walk away in Manly and Freshwater.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings or mid-afternoons are quietest if your dog is reactive or still training around other dogs. Weekends and the early morning or late afternoon golden hours draw the biggest crowds. Good for confident, well-recalled dogs that enjoy open space and a swim.
