Hinkler Park

Hinkler Park is a fully fenced off-leash dog park on Pittwater Road in North Manly, right next to Manly Lagoon. It is one of the more reliable off-leash spots on this stretch of the Northern Beaches: fenced, open 24 hours, and quieter than the beach off-leash areas nearby.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash within the fenced area 24 hours a day. The fencing means it suits dogs that are still building recall, but the park sits next to a public path and the lagoon, so keep an eye on gates and any open sections near the water. Owners are expected to maintain voice control and pick up after their dogs, with bins provided. The park is occasionally booked out for community events, so check before you head over if you are planning a regular visit.

What's there. The fenced exercise area is the main drum. There is a dog drinking water station, picnic tables if you want to hang around, a public toilet, and bins for waste. Dogs are allowed to swim in the adjoining stretch of Manly Lagoon.

Getting there. The park is at 300 Pittwater Road, easily reached from Manly or Seaforth. There is a small free parking lot on site plus additional free street parking nearby, and several bus routes along Pittwater Road (including the 155, 17X and 180) stop close by.

Nearby with the dogs. North Manly and neighbouring Queenscliff have a handful of dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating, and dog-friendly holiday rentals are common in the area if you are visiting for longer. Confirm pet policies directly with individual venues.

Early mornings, late afternoons and weekends are the busiest times. Weekday middays tend to be quieter, which suits a timid dog better. After heavy rain the lagoon can turn brackish, so it's worth checking water quality before letting your dog swim.
