Austin Crescent Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Austin Crescent Reserve is a small off-leash oval tucked into a residential pocket of Pascoe Vale, run by Merri-bek City Council. It is an open grassy space for a run and a ball game rather than a destination park, so keep expectations local.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash within the designated area and on-leash on the surrounding paths. You need effective voice or hand control at all times, must carry a lead, and must be on-lead within 15 metres of sporting grounds. Dogs come off the oval during organised sport. Bring your own waste bags, as none are supplied.

What's there. An open oval with bench seating around the perimeter and moderate shade from boundary trees. Reports on fencing differ, so treat the boundary as unsecured and check it yourself before letting a bolter off the lead. There is a drinking fountain nearby.

Getting there. Access is via Austin Crescent, with street parking usually available in the adjacent streets. Local buses serve the wider area, so check PTV for current routes toward Kent Road or Derby Street.

When to go. Busiest on weekday evenings and weekend mornings. Mid-morning and weekday afternoons are quieter. If your dog is nervous, steer clear of winter and summer sport seasons and stick to the quiet windows.
