Richards Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Richards Reserve on Charles Street is the one fully fenced dog park in this pocket of Coburg North, which makes it the sensible pick if your dog's recall is a work in progress. It is a medium-sized, well-shaded enclosure with grass, trees and a few logs to clamber on.

The rules. Inside the fence dogs can be off-leash, but they still need to be under effective voice control. Keep dogs on-lead within 15 metres of any playground. Bring your own bags and clean up after your dog.

What's there. A drinking water fountain, a couple of benches, and logs scattered about for enrichment. Lighting was added recently, so evening visits work better than they used to. The surface is mixed grass and dirt, which turns muddy after rain and dusty in a dry spell, so expect a dirty dog either way.

Getting there. The park is at 30 Charles Street. Street parking is available on Charles Street and the surrounding streets. It is an easy walk from the residential streets of Coburg North.

When to go. Sunday mornings and evenings and Tuesday evenings draw the biggest crowds. Friday evenings and Thursdays tend to be quieter. After heavy rain, give it a day or two to drain. Good for dogs still learning recall, thanks to the fence.
