Binky & Beans

Binky & Beans is a small specialty coffee caravan parked at 44 Spry Street in Coburg North, right outside The Rabbit Doctors veterinary clinic, and it is about as neighbourhood as a coffee stop gets. It runs mornings only, 8am to midday Monday to Friday and closed on weekends, so it is an early-coffee affair. Every seat is outdoors, which makes dogs part of the setup rather than an exception to it.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome beside you at the footpath tables around the caravan, and water bowls are put out for visiting dogs, which makes it a handy pause on a neighbourhood walk. The frontage is narrow and shared with the clinic entrance, so keep your dog on a lead and close in while other pets and people come and go. Because the site doubles as a working vet clinic for rabbits and other small animals, a calm dog matters more here than at a big cafe courtyard.

On the menu

The caravan keeps a focused drink list: espresso, lattes, flat whites, long blacks, mochas, chai lattes and dirty chais, hot chocolate and teas, made with locally roasted beans. Quick bites and fresh bakes cover the food side, and daily specials are keenly priced. The eco-conscious streak is part of the appeal, from the serving setup through to the community feel among locals in and out of the clinic.

Getting there and parking

The clinic building fronts Sydney Road but client parking and caravan access sit on the Spry Street side, with street parking generally available around the block. Coburg North station is a short walk for anyone arriving by train, and the 19 tram along Sydney Road stops nearby.

Close by with the dogs

The Richards Reserve fenced dog park on Charles Street is the closest off-leash option, with shaded sections and water access. The Merri Creek track via Coburg Lake runs just east of the suburb for an on-lead bushland walk, and Egan Reserve in Coburg adds another off-leash patch to the loop. For a later-morning coffee after a weekend walk, El Parche Coffee Roasters is a roastery cafe in Coburg itself.
