Hallam Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Hallam Reserve is a large open sports field on Landells Road in Pascoe Vale, run by Merri-bek City Council. It backs onto the Merri Creek Trail, which makes it good for combining an off-leash run with a longer walk, but the reserve is unfenced and that shapes the whole visit.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times and on-lead within 15 metres of organised sport and the playground. Owners must carry a lead. Bring your own waste bags, as none are supplied. The oval is shared with community users and the Pascoe Vale Football Club, so dogs come off when sport is in progress.

What's there. An open oval, a pavilion and a public toilet, plus shaded seating and a water tap with a dog bowl. There is a playground on site, so keep dogs leashed nearby.

Watch-outs. The field is not securely fenced and the Merri Creek Trail runs right alongside it. If your dog has high prey drive or patchy recall, keep it close, particularly near the creek edge.

Getting there. Street parking is available along Landells Road, with access off Cumberland Road. Buses run along Cumberland Road and Devon Road, and the Merri Creek Trail gives direct walking access.

When to go. Busiest on weekday mornings and evenings and weekend mornings. Weekday afternoons are quietest. Avoid weekends in football season if your dog is reactive to crowds.
