Kawana Island Grand Parade Fenced Dog Park

The Kawana Island Grand Parade Fenced Dog Park in Parrearra is a fully fenced, off-leash exercise area on the Sunshine Coast, split into separate enclosures for small and large dogs. Open around the clock, it gives Kawana Island dog owners a secure, dry run regardless of the tide.

The dog setup

Dogs stay leashed until you are inside the fenced enclosures, which run through a double-gate entry that visitors regularly single out as a real safety feature. Keep your dog leashed until the inner gate clicks shut, and do not let them rush the entry as other dogs come through.

Inside, the rules are the standard Sunshine Coast Council set: stay in the park, keep your dog responsive to voice, remove any dog showing aggression straight away, and clean up with the supplied bags and bins. Regulated dogs are banned from off-leash areas. Outside the fence, the island's pedestrian and cycle paths are strictly on lead.

Worth knowing

The grassed enclosures are backed by high fencing along the road side, with mature shade trees, water taps with dog bowls and bench seating, and the park has a reputation for being clean and well kept. One local warning recurs: midgies, the small biting insects, are active near dusk and on damp ground, so pack repellent if you are staying late.

The park is busiest on weekend mornings and weekday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm, so a mid-morning or early afternoon slot midweek is the calm option. Because the ground is fenced and elevated above the waterline, it stays usable in wet weather when the island's foreshore paths are not.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Grand Parade between Tortola Place and Tarawa Street, with street parking along the parade. Bus stops on Point Cartwright Drive are a short walk away, and the island's pathway network brings you in on foot or bike.
