The Paddocks Wetlands

The Paddocks Wetlands is a large reserve on Maxwell Road in Para Hills West that pairs a bridged wetland walking trail and bird conservation areas with a fully fenced dog exercise yard. The balance is the reason to go: a structured on-leash circuit plus a secure off-leash run in the one outing.

The rules

The City of Salisbury enforces location-specific leash rules here. Dogs must stay on a leash, maximum two metres, within the wetlands area, along the walking trails and across the general reserve. Off-leash play is permitted only inside the fenced dog exercise yard, with your dog under effective control and in your sight the whole time.

A small dog park trial is running until June 2027: from 2pm to 6pm daily the fenced yard is restricted to individual use, with shared use at all other times. Dogs are strictly prohibited inside the fenced children's playground, and owners must clean up using the provided bags and bins. Close the gates behind you so nobody's dog slips out.

What's there

The fenced dog park has separate areas designed for different dog sizes and temperaments. The broader reserve offers paved and gravelled trails circling the wetlands, shady picnic settings, benches, an outdoor gym, public toilets and a dedicated car park beside the playground.

Max: a 2-metre leash rule is non-negotiable in a conservation zone. Keep the lead short near the pond, and save the running for the fenced yard.

Getting there

The reserve sits directly off Maxwell Road in Para Hills West, with ample parking at the car park by the playground. Adelaide Metro buses stop along the surrounding roads, making the reserve reachable from Para Hills West, Salisbury South and neighbouring suburbs without a car.

Watch-outs

This is an active bird conservation site, so keep dogs well away from the native wildlife on and around the pond. The wetland trails also turn muddy after rain, so adjust your walking route accordingly.

Close by with the dogs

For a change of scenery, the Large Dog Park Maxwell Road is a short drive away, and the Toohey Ridge Track covers bushland to the south if you want a longer on-lead walk.

When to go
