Firmstone Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Firmstone Reserve Fenced Dog Park on Murray Road in Pagewood is one of the larger secure off-leash spaces in Sydney's east, about 3,500 square metres of fully fenced ground managed by Bayside Council. It has a loyal local following, generous double-gated entries, and a recent round of upgrades that added agility features and better surfacing, which makes it a genuine running park rather than a token strip of grass.

The dog setup

Four double-gated entry points keep arrivals and departures secure, and dogs run free only inside the fenced boundary under voice control and constant supervision. Drinking fountains, bench seating and bag dispensers cover the basics. The ground mixes grass, sand and mulch with simple agility features such as logs and sandstone blocks; the central area can turn to mud after rain or heavy use, so the edges usually give the cleaner run.

Max: nervous dogs should skip weekend mornings. Early weekday visits or a quiet Sunday afternoon give you the space without the scrum.

Worth knowing

Bayside Council has listed embellishment works for the reserve, including new seating, re-turfing and signage updates, so it is worth checking the council's project page before a first visit in case sections are closed during works. Council points people to the off-leash areas at Mutch Park and Astrolabe Park as alternatives when the fence line is affected. Weekday evenings and weekends are the busiest windows; Friday mornings tend to be the calmest. Any dog showing aggression should be leashed and removed straight away.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 8 Murray Road, Pagewood, with wheelchair-accessible entrances. Street parking is available but fills up in busy periods. Bus stops on Banksia Street and Wentworth Avenue are a short walk away, and Eastgardens is a few minutes in the other direction.

While you're out there

A short drive into Mascot brings you to The PAWFECT Cafe, which welcomes dogs inside and out with its own dog menu, and Seora Cafe nearby. For more secure off-leash space, Sir Joseph Banks Park at Botany and High Street Reserve in Mascot are both close, and Astrolabe Park is the council's suggested backup.
