Astrolabe Dog Park Car Park

The car park on Isaac Smith Street is the most practical access point for Astrolabe Park, a large, unfenced off-leash reserve on the Daceyville and Pagewood border in Sydney's east. It is free, sits directly beside the green space, and saves you hunting for street parking around the surrounding blocks.

The dog setup

Astrolabe Park runs as an off-leash exercise area under Bayside Council, but it is not fully fenced, so the lead comes off at your own judgement. Keep dogs with patchy recall leashed near the roads and surrounding paths, maintain effective control at all times and pick up after your dog. The park itself is a broad open field ringed by mature shade trees and a paved walking track, with bins and water points on hand.

Max: unfenced means your recall needs to be solid before you drop the lead. Scope the boundary near the car park first, especially if your dog is apt to wander toward traffic.

The vibe

The entrance near the car park is busiest on weekday mornings, late afternoons and weekends, when local dogs stack up for a run. Mid-week late morning or early afternoon is the quietest window. Lighting is limited, so treat this as a daylight park and bring your own waste bags as backup.

Getting there and parking

Isaac Smith Street runs off Gardeners Road, with several bus routes along Gardeners Road a short walk away. Residents of Pagewood, Daceyville and Eastlakes can reach the park easily on foot, and the free car park makes it simple for anyone driving in from further out.
