Virginius Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Virginius Reserve's fenced dog park on Virginius Street is the secure off-leash option for Padstow locals, sitting on the suburb's edge near Revesby. It is fully fenced with a double-gated entry, and the off-leash access inside the enclosure runs around the clock under City of Canterbury Bankstown rules.

The dog setup

The enclosure is long and grassed, giving dogs room to spread out rather than one tight oval. There is a water station with a bowl, a few benches, and a modest agility set with a ramp, tunnel, hoops and poles. Trees provide shade but it thins out around midday, so carry water through summer. One gap to know: there is no separate small-dog yard, so all sizes share the single space.

Worth knowing

The dog area is not lit, even though the adjacent playground is, so this is a daylight and early-evening park despite the 24-hour off-leash status; visibility drops fast after dusk in winter. Council conditions apply: dogs under effective control with owners inside the fence, collars and registration tags worn, waste in the bins provided, and any dog showing aggression leashed and removed immediately.

Max: if your dog is nervous around others, aim for weekday mid-morning rather than the after-work rush, when the enclosure fills up and the light fades.

Getting there and parking

Free on-street parking runs alongside the park on Virginius Street and is the easiest way in, with the reserve walkable from surrounding Padstow and Revesby Heights streets. Weekday mornings are the quietest windows; weekends and the 5pm to 6pm rush are the busiest.

Close by with the dogs

Vale of Ah Reserve at Milperra is the bigger regional option a short drive northwest, with separate size areas and floodlighting into the evening. Manoush & Co in the Padstow village covers the coffee stop, and Elatte Cafe serves the riverside side of the suburb.
