Vale of Ah Reserve

Vale of Ah Reserve is an off-leash dog park on Auld Avenue in Milperra, running along the Georges River in Sydney's south-west. The drawcard is a small sandy riverbank area where dogs can wade and play alongside open green space for running, all managed by City of Canterbury-Bankstown council.

The rules: Dogs can run off-leash within the designated reserve area, but must go back on-leash in the car park and near the playground. Dogs are not permitted on the sporting fields. Owners must clean up after their dogs, and bag dispensers are provided on site. Dogs must be under effective control at all times.

Getting there: The reserve is on Auld Avenue, Milperra, reached via Henry Lawson Drive. There is a car park directly at the reserve, though public transport options nearby are limited, so driving is the easiest way in.

Nearby with the dogs: Frankie's Food Factory, inside the Flower Power Garden Centre on Henry Lawson Drive, is a well-known pet-friendly cafe close by with its own pet menu.

Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons are the busiest times; a weekday mid-morning visit is quieter. The riverbank can be affected by water levels, so confirm current conditions if you are counting on the sandy area, and expect it to get muddy after heavy rain.
