Vale of Ah Reserve

Vale of Ah Reserve is an off-leash dog park on Auld Avenue in Milperra, sitting right on the Georges River in Sydney's south-west. The combination that keeps locals coming back is simple: open grass to run on and a small sandy riverbank where dogs can wade and cool off.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash across the designated reserve area, managed by City of Canterbury-Bankstown. There is agility equipment to burn energy on, and the sandy stretch at the water's edge is the feature most owners come for, though river levels change it and it turns muddy after rain.

The leash goes back on in the car park and near the playground, and dogs are not permitted on the sporting fields. Bag dispensers are provided on site, but bring water, because any bowls left out by other owners are a goodwill gesture rather than a guaranteed facility.

Frankie's Food Factory, inside the Flower Power Garden Centre on Henry Lawson Drive, is a well-known dog-friendly cafe minutes away with a pet menu of its own. Four Little Foxes in Milperra is another local stop that welcomes dogs, and Jane + James Espresso in Panania is a short drive north.
