Jane + James Espresso

Jane + James Espresso is a small, stylish corner espresso bar in the heart of Panania, in Sydney's south-west. It is compact and quick-moving, built around takeaway coffee and hearty cafe food, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, so the morning coffee run does not mean leaving the dog at home.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted in the outdoor seating area only, leashed and settled beside your table while you eat. The space is snug, so a dog that tucks in under the table works best. Staff are consistently praised as warm and friendly with dogs and will often put a water bowl out, but bring your own on busy mornings rather than count on it.

Worth knowing

Coffee is The Little Marionette, poured smooth and creamy, and the food lineup leans hearty: chorizo burgers, jalapeno toasties, ham and cheese croissants, bacon and egg rolls and a banana bread worth the stop. Hours are tight, 7am to 12:30pm weekdays and 7:30am to 1pm weekends, so this is a morning play. It suits a quick takeaway coffee and toastie on the way past more than a long sit-down brunch.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 5/48 Anderson Ave, Panania, with Panania train station an easy walk away. Free street parking runs along Anderson Ave and the surrounding shopping strip, and there is a free car park nearby if the kerbside spots are gone.

Close by with the dogs

For a longer outing after coffee, Vale of Ah Reserve over in Milperra gives the dog proper open space, and Bump and Grind Cafe in Revesby is a fellow dog-friendly stop one suburb over. Manoush and Co rounds out the local strip crawl if you are working the area.
