Peakhurst Heights Dog off leash area

The off-leash area in the lower section of Gannons Park is a big, open field off Pindari Road where dogs get genuine room to run, unfenced and available around the clock.

The dog setup

Georges River Council designates the lower park section as a 24 hour off-leash zone. Because there is no fencing, your dog needs reliable recall and effective voice control the whole time; the space is generous, but there is no fence to catch a bolt.

Leash rules apply everywhere else: on shared pathways, entering and leaving the park, and on the upper playing fields. Dogs are kept away from the children's playground and BBQ areas, and any dog showing aggression should be leashed and taken home. Bins are provided, though carrying your own poo bags is the safe bet.

The vibe

Gannons Park is a large community sports and bushland reserve, and the dog area benefits from it: water bubblers for people and dogs, sheltered picnic tables, benches and a toilet block all sit close by. Weekday mornings before 8am are the quietest slots, while weekends and the 4pm to 6pm weekday window draw the crowds.

Worth knowing: the lower fields have no floodlighting, so this is a daylight park. Winter afternoons finish early.

Getting there and parking

Enter via Pindari Road for the main lower car park or from Isaac Street; both have free parking right beside the fields. Buses along Forest Road stop within walking distance if you are coming by public transport.

Close by with the dogs

Cafe on Pindari is the natural coffee stop before or after your run, and South Pour in Penshurst is another local favourite with outdoor seating for dogs. If your dog does better inside a fence, Riverwood Park's fenced dog park is a short drive north.
