The fenced park section is off-leash and enclosed, but the moment you step onto the adjoining beach and mudflats, you're in an unfenced tidal waterway, not a fenced yard, so recall matters. Bring your own waste bags as a backup even though bins are provided, and keep dogs within the marked off-leash boundary, since the surrounding wetlands are a migratory bird habitat.

The water. This is a tidal creek mouth, not a still lagoon, so tide state changes the visit completely. Low tide exposes wide sand flats that are ideal for running and paddling. High tide brings deeper water for swimming but shrinks the beach and can leave a deeper channel between your dog and the shore, so it pays to check tide times before you go, especially with a young or nervous swimmer.

What's there. Agility equipment (tunnels and platforms) sits inside the fenced area, along with water fountains for dogs and people, picnic tables, and a gravel car park right off Nudgee Road that's free but fills up fast on weekend mornings. A mobile coffee van is often on site Thursday to Sunday, handy for a coffee while the dogs run.

Watch-outs. There have been reported shark sightings near the river mouth at high tide, so treat deep water at the creek mouth with caution rather than letting dogs swim right out. The flats also get genuinely muddy at low tide, so pack a towel and a spare lead for the trip home.

Getting there. It's about a 20-25 minute drive north of the Brisbane CBD via Nudgee Road. Public transport options nearby are limited, so driving is the practical way in. The car park and entry are wheelchair accessible.

Nearby. Nudgee Beach itself is largely residential with few confirmed dog-friendly cafes right on the doorstep. For a coffee stop with outdoor seating, the nearest options are in Banyo and Nudgee, a short drive away.

Go early on weekends if you want the car park and the sand flats to yourself, and check the tide chart the night before. Good for confident swimmers and dogs that recall reliably off-leash near open water; nervous swimmers will do better sticking to the fenced grass and agility section.
