Blatchford Dog Park

Blatchford Dog Park is the fenced off-leash enclosure inside Blatchford Sporting and Recreation Reserve on Blatchford Drive, Murrumba Downs. It is one of the better-equipped dog spaces in the Moreton Bay area: a fully fenced run with a double-gated entrance, real shade trees, and the whole rest of the reserve right next door for a full family outing.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully enclosed, so the rules are simple. Off-lead is strictly inside the fence; anywhere else in the reserve your dog stays on a lead. Use the double gate properly, taking the lead off inside the airlock, and keep effective voice or hand control at all times. Waste bins are on site, though carrying a spare bag is always smart. Shade trees cover a good part of the run and there is seating, which puts it a class above the bare-fence parks in summer.

Worth knowing

The wider reserve is the real draw for mixed groups. There are public toilets, covered picnic tables and BBQs, a playground with a multi-level fort, a pump track, skate and bike facilities, outdoor fitness equipment and basketball courts, so one adult can hold the dog park while the rest of the family spreads out. The dog area itself is best used in daylight; only parts of the broader reserve are lit after dark. Anyone displaying aggression from their dog should leash up and move on quickly, as the regular crowd here is friendly but firm on that.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits at 30 Blatchford Drive, with entry via Blatchford Drive or the main car park off Goodfellows Road. Parking is free and ample near the main access point and beside the sporting fields. It is reachable from Dohles Rocks Road or the M1, and Murrumba Downs train station is reasonably close if you are walking over.

If the main enclosure is crowded, Fenrir Riverwood Dog Park is an alternative in the same suburb, while Gardenia Dog Park in North Lakes runs a multi-zone layout with separate small-dog space.
