Penson Park Fenced Dog Park

Penson Park Fenced Dog Park is the off-leash enclosure inside Penson Park on Ann Street in Kallangur, right beside Kruger Hall. Some locals know it simply as the Ann Street dog park. It is a fully fenced, single-yard park with good tree shade and a small agility setup, and because it sits inside a full community park, a dog session here comes with playgrounds, BBQs and toilets within a few steps.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with a secure double-gated entry, which covers the gap between your car and the clip coming off. It is one shared yard for all sizes rather than split big and small dog zones, so judge the crowd before committing a smaller dog. Inside there is grass underfoot, decent shade from the mature trees, a water tap with a bowl, shaded seating and a small agility area, with bag dispensers and bins for cleanup.

Worth knowing

Off-lead applies only inside the fence; everywhere else in Penson Park dogs are on lead. Moreton Bay council expects effective voice control even inside the enclosure, and any dog showing aggressive or unruly behaviour should be leashed and taken out straight away. The adjacent playground means kids are around, so keep an eye on the gate line. Early mornings and late afternoons on weekdays, plus Saturday mornings, draw the regulars; weekday midday is the quiet window.

Pepsi: single yard parks live or die on the crowd, and the shade saves this one in summer. By ten in the morning the trees have done their job and I can still run.

Getting there and parking

The entrance is off Ann Street in Kallangur, with a dedicated car park at the facility, so parking is straightforward outside peak times. The park is on the old Gympie Road corridor between North Lakes and Petrie, and Kallangur railway station is nearby if you are coming up the line from Brisbane.

Close by with the dogs

Kallangur has fenced options to rotate through, including Freshwater Reserve Fenced Dog Park, and Sweeney Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Petrie is a few minutes south. For a beach run, Peasholm Dog Beach on the Redcliffe peninsula is worth the drive, with a coffee stop at Drift Coffee Company on the way home.
