Sweeney Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Sweeney Reserve is a fenced off-leash dog park on Old Dayboro Road in Petrie, run by the City of Moreton Bay. It pairs a secure, fully enclosed play area with a much larger riverside reserve on the North Pine River, so a safe romp and a longer on-lead walk happen in one stop.

The dog setup

The leash stays on everywhere in the wider reserve until you are inside the double-gated enclosure, where off lead begins. Owners are expected to stay inside the fence and supervise closely, any dog showing aggression gets leashed and removed, and pickup is a legal requirement with bins on hand.

Dogs need to be registered, vaccinated and wearing an ID tag, and unvaccinated puppies should stay away until their course is complete. The fenced area itself has shaded, covered seating and water for dogs and people.

Max: the two-parks-in-one layout is the selling point. Do the fenced run first, then clip on and take the river circuit while the dog is still happy to walk.

The vibe

A mix of open grass and mature shade keeps the reserve comfortable through the day, and the enclosure draws a steady local crowd with a reputation for friendly dogs. It sits within a big family park, so weekend mornings bring playground traffic alongside the dog regulars.

The river frontage is the bonus for on-lead time, with water edges worth keeping an eye on if your dog is keen to swim. Unfenced water and an off-lead dog do not mix, so the clip stays on outside the compound.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 1 Old Dayboro Road, Petrie, open around the clock, with free car parks at the main entrance and near the playground and dog park zones. The wider reserve adds toilets, BBQs, a playground and a heritage walking trail towards Old Petrie Town, though the playground is not a dog area.

Close by with the dogs
