Les Hughes Sports Complex Fenced Dog Park

The Les Hughes Sports Complex Fenced Dog Park is a purpose-built, fully fenced off-leash area inside the wider Les Hughes Sporting Complex on Casuarina Drive North, Bray Park. The fencing is the drawcard: separate enclosures for big and small dogs mean nervous or small dogs get their own space away from boisterous larger ones.

The dog setup

Both the large and small dog enclosures have basic agility equipment, shaded seating for owners and a water tap, with a double-gated entry for security. Bins and bag dispensers are on site, and pick-up is expected. Any dog showing aggression goes back on lead and out straight away, and owners stay inside the enclosure with effective voice control over their dog.

Max: do not assume the fencing means you can switch off outside it. The rule change happens right at the gate, on-lead the second you are back in the shared complex grounds.

Worth knowing

Off-leash applies inside the enclosures only; the rest of the sports complex, including the sports fields, car parks and walkways, is on-lead territory under City of Moreton Bay rules. Unleash inside the double-gate zone rather than in the shared grounds. The broader complex adds public toilets, a playground, a kids' bike track and outdoor fitness equipment, so it doubles as a family stop if you have kids in tow.

Getting there and parking

The entrance is off Casuarina Drive North, Bray Park, with parking near the sports fields close to the park gate. Translink buses run through the area, though expect a short walk in from the nearest stop.

When to go

Weekday afternoons from about 4pm to 6pm and weekend mornings from 7am to 10am are the regular local windows; quiet sessions are easier to find mid-morning on weekdays. The separate small-dog enclosure keeps things workable even when the main run is busy.

Close by with the dogs
