Wheelhouse Coffee

Wheelhouse Coffee is the family-run cafe at Shop 4, 774 Gympie Road, Lawnton, done out in recycled wagon wheels and vintage timber with a loyal local following. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating out front, which makes it a natural coffee stop on the way to or from Pine Rivers Park.

Dogs at Wheelhouse

Dogs settle in at the street-facing outdoor tables; keep the lead on and position your dog away from the main footpath traffic. The cafe keeps Canine Cafe Chewys, a dental treat, behind the counter for four-legged visitors, and staff will usually sort a water bowl on request, though bringing a backup is smart on hot mornings.

The vibe

Wolff beans drive the espresso, with cold brew and the bottled Off the Wagon cold-pressed iced coffee for the drive. Food covers all-day brunch and lunch: bagels, smashed avocado, quiche, waffles, burgers and a reliable banana bread. Hours are 6:30am to 1pm Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 1pm Saturday and 7:30am to 11:30am Sunday, so it is a morning operation; confirm the day's hours before a long drive since they can shift.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Gympie Road through Lawnton, with street parking generally easy to find on the surrounding side streets. It is a quick hop off the main route north.

Make a day of it

Pine Rivers Park is a short drive away for open green space and paths, and the Sweeney Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Petrie gives a secure off-lead run nearby. For a second coffee with dogs on the list, Hygge Cafe at Petrie and Mugs Cafe up the road both work.
