Freshwater Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits on Park Grove Court in Kallangur, a fully fenced off-leash park with a leafy, creekside feel that makes it one of the better-equipped options in the area, with a small agility set-up alongside the usual run space.

The rules. Dogs must be leashed until inside the fenced area, and owners need to keep them under voice control at all times. Clean up after your dog, bins are provided. Dogs must stay clear of the children's playground equipment nearby, and any dog showing aggression should be removed straight away.

What's there. The fenced area includes agility equipment (an A-frame, hurdles, jump rings and a tunnel), a water tap for topping up bowls, a covered seating shelter plus open benches, and good tree shade. There are no public toilets in the reserve itself, the nearest are at Lillybrook Shopping Centre.

Getting there. The park is off Anzac Avenue via Park Grove Court, with roadside parking near the entry. Bus routes run along Anzac Avenue if you're walking in from a stop.

Check the gate latch on the way in, a few visitors have reported it sticking or not closing properly. Worth a firm push and a look before you let anyone off lead.

Nearby with the dogs. Lillybrook Shopping Centre covers quick food and toilets. For a proper coffee stop, Rocks Cafe in nearby Griffin has outdoor picnic tables and welcomes dogs.

When to go. Weekday afternoons from about 4.30pm and weekend mornings before 9am are the busiest windows. For a quieter run, aim for a weekday mid-morning. After heavy rain the ground near the creek edge can turn muddy, so factor that in if your dog hates a wash afterwards.
