Freshwater Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Freshwater Reserve's fenced dog park sits on Park Grove Court in Kallangur, a fully enclosed off-leash space with a leafy, creekside feel that separates it from the bare-fenced-paddock school of dog park design. City of Moreton Bay runs it, and among the suburb's dog parks it is the best equipped for a dog that wants more than a flat lap.

The dog setup

The agility run is the centrepiece: an A-frame, hurdles, jump rings, a camel hump and a log tunnel give working noses and working legs something to do between rounds of fetch. The space is a single combined enclosure rather than split small and large yards, so read the room through the gate before unclipping. A water tap keeps bowls topped up, a covered shelter and open benches give owners somewhere to settle, and mature trees do the shade work.

Leads stay on across the wider creekside walkways; off-leash applies inside the fence only. Clean up as you go, bins are provided, and dogs stay clear of the children's playground equipment nearby. Any dog showing aggression is expected to be removed straight away.

Worth knowing

Max: check the gate latch on the way in. A few visitors have reported it sticking or not closing cleanly, so give it a firm push and a second look before anyone goes off lead.

There are no public toilets inside the reserve itself; the nearest are at Lillybrook Shopping Centre. After heavy rain the ground near the creek edge turns to mud, which matters if your dog hates the car-towel routine.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is off Anzac Avenue via Park Grove Court, with roadside parking near the entry. Bus routes along Anzac Avenue suit anyone walking in. Weekday afternoons from about 4.30pm and weekend mornings before 9am are the busiest stretches, so a weekday mid-morning run is the quiet bet.

While you're out there

Two more fenced runs sit in Kallangur: Penson Park Fenced Dog Park and Yarrabee Park Fenced Dog Park, which has a separate small-dog space if the single yard here gets too lively. For the drive home, Rocks Cafe in nearby Griffin welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables.
