Whitehaven Crescent Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Whitehaven Crescent Reserve on Whitehaven Crescent, Mulgrave, is a City of Monash reserve with a large open off-leash area for active dogs, and it is better equipped than most local reserves, with a dedicated agility zone alongside the big running space.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash in the designated zone, generally around the clock, provided they stay under effective voice or hand control and in sight. The reserve is unfenced rather than double-gated, so a dependable recall matters, though the upside is plenty of space to spread out away from other park users.

Monash Council requires dogs on-lead within 20 metres of the playground, barbecue areas or any organised sport, and off the playground itself. Carry a lead and waste bags at all times, and keep dogs clear of anyone who does not want the attention.

The off-leash area has been upgraded with a granitic sand surface, an agility zone of mudstone rocks, hoops, timber logs and a paws table, plus new plantings that will grow into natural shade. A drinking fountain, waste bins and bench seating sit in the reserve, with the playground set apart on the north side.

Pepsi: loads of open grass to open up on, just clock where the playground is and give it a wide berth so you only go on-lead where you have to.

The vibe

Early mornings before 8am and mid-week afternoons are the calm stretches, while weekday late afternoons and weekend late mornings draw the regulars. Even at the busy times there is usually room to keep your distance from other dogs.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Whitehaven Crescent. By public transport, the 814 bus between Springvale and Dandenong passes nearby on Jacksons Road, with a short walk in through the surrounding streets.
