Mosman Off Leash Dog Area

Mosman runs a network of off-leash areas rather than a single fenced dog park, and the pick is Sirius Cove Reserve, a sheltered, sandy harbour beach with Clifton Gardens and Rosherville Reserve offering grass, shade and harbour views. The same time rules apply across the network, which makes a harbour-side run possible almost every day of the week if you time it right.

Leash status

Dogs can be off-lead all day Monday to Friday, and on weekends and public holidays before 9am and after 4pm only. Outside those windows, and in every other public space, the lead goes on. Council lists the on-lead exceptions too: car parks and the boardwalk down to Sirius Cove beach stay on-lead even during off-lead hours, rangers patrol, and fines apply. One boundary to know: Sydney Harbour National Park, including the Bradleys Head and Chowder Bay bushland, is strictly no dogs.

Max: the boardwalk and car park are on-lead even when the beach is off-lead, and rangers do check. Clip the lead on until paws are actually on the sand.

What is there

At Sirius Cove you get sand, water and shade trees with taps, while Clifton Gardens and Rosherville add public toilets, picnic shelters, barbecues and playgrounds. Bins are provided across the reserves, but bring your own water bowl rather than counting on a tap being close.

Getting there and parking

Sirius Cove Road ends at a small car park that fills quickly, followed by a steep walk down to the water. On weekends, arrive before about 8:30am for a spot. Bus route 238 stops near Sirius Cove Road, also leaving a steep downhill walk in.

When to go

Mid-morning or mid-afternoon on a weekday is the quietest run. Weekend mornings between 8am and 11am are the busiest window the reserve sees.

Close by with the dogs

Cafe Monstera and The Deck at Grumpy's Wharf at nearby Mosman Bay both take dogs at their outdoor tables, and the Balmoral Beach to The Spit walk makes a good on-lead add-on along the harbour.
