Cafe Monstera

Cafe Monstera sits at 1E Avenue Road right on the Mosman Bay wharf, a bright specialty-coffee cafe with waterfront views and a quieter feel than the main strips. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the wharf walkway, and the walker crowd makes it a natural stop on a foreshore lap or a ferry trip across the harbour.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables on the wharf walkway; the indoor area is people-only. Staff are used to dogs and water bowls are often around given the number of walkers passing through, but carry your own as a backup. Keep your dog on lead near the walkway, since ferry passengers and prams move through steadily.

Worth knowing

Coffee is roasted by ONA, and the OG Monstera Waffle with lemon mascarpone, pistachio crumb and seasonal fruit is the signature, with a rotating brunch menu that has run to smoked pork belly benedict and acai bowls. Hours run early: 6:30am to 1pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1:30pm weekends, so plan breakfast or a late-morning coffee rather than lunch.

Getting there and parking

The ferry is the easiest arrival, with services running straight to Mosman Bay wharf steps away from the tables. Buses run along the top of Avenue Road, leaving a short walk down to the bay. Street parking is limited and tight on weekends, so arriving on foot or by ferry saves the circling.

Close by with the dogs

Mosman's off-lead rules are generous, and the nearby off-leash space at Mosman Off Leash Dog Area covers the free-running part of the morning. For a longer outing, the Balmoral Beach to The Spit route traces the harbour foreshore, and the foreshore track towards Little Sirius Cove runs directly off the bay side. Another coffee option on the return leg is The Espresso Room in Mosman.

Max: ferry ride, waffle crumbs, then a splash at Sirius Cove before the crowd turns up. Harbourside mornings do not get better.
