The Boathouse Balmoral Beach

The Boathouse Balmoral Beach sits right on the sand at the southern end of Balmoral, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch with the water directly in front of you. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which makes it the classic finish to a Balmoral promenade walk with the dog still on the lead.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor seating on the boardwalk side; the indoor dining room is strictly people only. The venue runs on a walk-in basis, so the dog-friendly tables are first come, first served, and summer weekends reward an early arrival. Water bowls are usually available out front, and parts of the beach wall near the tables have rings you can clip a lead to. Keep your dog leashed and close: the promenade and beach edge are leash-only and the whole strip gets crowded.

Worth knowing

The kitchen is known for fish and chips, barramundi and the group's banana bread, with scones and a happy hour covering the later slots. It is a busy, scenic, high-turnover spot rather than a quiet local cafe, and the crowd is part of the draw. Hours run 7am to 5pm daily, extending to 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Getting there and parking

The venue is on the Balmoral Beach esplanade at the southern end, in Mosman. Street parking along the esplanade and surrounding streets is metered and tight on sunny weekends, so arriving before 9am is the reliable play. Buses from the city and Spit Junction stop within walking distance.

Close by with the dogs

The Balmoral Beach to The Spit walk starts right there and is one of Sydney's better harbour-side leg stretchers. The Mosman Off Leash Dog Area covers the off-lead quota, and The Deck at Grumpy's Wharf Cafe is the other waterfront table in the suburb.
