Primrose Park Walking Track

The short version. Primrose Park sits on Matora Lane in Cammeray, wrapped around a harbour inlet at Folly Point. The draw is the wide, unfenced ovals where dogs can run off-leash, backed by quiet bushland and a small harbour beach a short walk on.

The rules. Off-leash is allowed on the ovals at all times, except when organised sport or training is on - dogs must be clear of the sportsfields then. Keep your dog leashed in the bushland and on the walk down to the harbour beach (about 100 metres from the oval). The bushland at Folly Point is a designated Wildlife Protection Area, so stay on formal paths through it and keep dogs out of the playground.

What's there. Two car parks (a lower lot near the field and a top area), public toilets, a playground, and dog tidy-bag dispensers. North Sydney Council publishes a bag-dispenser map if you want to plan.

Getting there. By car, come in via Denos Lane or Matora Lane. On transit, it's roughly a 10-minute walk down from Military Road, which carries frequent buses to the city and across the North Shore.

The water. The harbour beach at the back is small and tidal. High tide gives a better spot for a swim; low tide opens up more sand but exposes mud, so pick your timing.

When to go. Early mornings and weekday middays are quietest. Evenings and weekends fill up, especially when sport is running. Good for dogs with solid recall who want open space, with a leashed bush-and-beach loop to finish.
