G.R. Bricker Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

G.R. Bricker Reserve on Rowans Road is a large mixed-use reserve in Moorabbin, and its dog off-leash area sits on the eastern side of Rowans Road next to the Steam Locomotive Society. The reserve runs 24/7, the off-leash enclosure is fenced, and the sporting grounds across the road are on-leash only. Get the side right before you unclip.

Leash status

The eastern side of Rowans Road is the designated off-leash zone, inside a fully fenced enclosure with a gated entry. Everything on the western side, the sporting ovals and pavilion, stays on-lead at all times, as do the car parks, gardens and paths between. Even in the off-leash area your dog needs to be under effective voice control and within sight, and playground zones are off limits to dogs entirely. Pick up straight away; council rangers do patrol.

Max: lead on through the gate, then it is the best fence line in Moorabbin. The airlock entry means no escape artist moments at the door.

Water and terrain

The enclosure is flat open grass ringed by mature trees, so there is shade through the middle of the day. Drinking water and seating sit on the reserve, along with public toilets, bins near the entries and walking paths through landscaped gardens. The western side adds playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment and basketball hoops for anyone with kids in tow.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 117 Rowans Road, reached off South Road or the Nepean Highway, with parking directly on site. Buses run along South Road a short walk away. Moorabbin station on the Frankston line needs a connecting bus, so driving is the easy option with a dog.

When to go

Weekday mornings and evenings plus weekend mornings are the busy windows, and the Moorabbin Obedience Dog Club trains here on its scheduled slots, which changes the mix of dogs considerably. For a calmer run, aim midweek late morning or early afternoon, and skip the training times if your dog is on the timid side.
