Farm Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Farm Road Reserve is a long, fully fenced linear off-leash park running roughly 500 metres off Brampton Street in Cheltenham. The shape is the feature: a central walking track with grass and shade on either side, so you and the dog cover ground together instead of standing around a small square. It is well run by the City of Kingston and clearly loved by locals.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash at all times inside the fence, under effective voice control. Three secure access points sit on the north, south and west sides, and the etiquette is simple: latch the gate behind you and pick up after your dog. Water taps with bowls, bag dispensers and bins are on site, with benches along the way for owners. The tree cover throws real shade along the run, though the ground can turn muddy or worn after rain.

Max: a long narrow strip beats a poky square every time. Stride out down the track and the dog zooms alongside the whole way.

The vibe

This is a moving-walk park rather than a sit-and-supervise one, and the narrow layout keeps everyone drifting in the same direction, which tends to keep the atmosphere easy. It fills up after work and on weekends; for a calmer lap, aim for mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday.

Getting there and parking

Main parking is on Brampton Street, with additional access points near the aged care facility on Centre Dandenong Road to the south and off Farm Road to the north. Cheltenham Station is a short drive or walk away for anyone coming in by train.
