Aberfeldie Park Dog Off Leash Area

Aberfeldie Park sits on The Boulevard above the Maribyrnong River, and its off-leash area is a large, unfenced open space with room to run and river views to walk to. It suits an active dog with a reliable recall, not one that bolts.

The rules. Off-leash is allowed in the designated area only, with dogs on lead everywhere else in the park, including near the sporting ovals during play. Under Moonee Valley rules a dog off-leash must be under effective control and responsive to voice commands, kept at least 15 metres from playgrounds, barbecues and exercise equipment. Carry bags and pick up after your dog. Because the zone is unfenced and the river is close, a solid recall matters here.

What's there. Open green space for running and picnics, walking tracks, and access down to the Maribyrnong riverbank for water-loving dogs under supervision. Note there is no dog fencing, so this is a control-based space rather than a secure one.

Getting there. The park is reached via The Boulevard, Aberfeldie, with parking along the riverside road. The nearest tram is the 57 Maribyrnong line, followed by a short walk down toward the river.

Watch-outs. The ground gets muddy after rain, so expect a wash-down on wet days. Keep dogs away from local wildlife near the water.

When to go. Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons are busiest. For a quieter run, aim for mid-morning on a weekday. Good for big runners with reliable recall.
