Chifley Drive Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Chifley Drive Reserve is an open, unfenced off-leash area on Chifley Drive in Maribyrnong, running alongside the Maribyrnong River trail. It is a 24/7 off-leash spot, which makes it a flexible option if you need to fit a walk around an early or late schedule.

The rules: Dogs must be under effective voice control at all times. Aggressive or socially unacceptable behaviour is not tolerated and dogs need to be removed immediately if it happens. Keep dogs on-lead within 30 metres of the playground, and always pick up after your dog since bin bags are not guaranteed to be stocked.

What's there: Facilities are limited to open grassy space. There are no significant benches or water stations, so bring your own water and something to sit on. Expect the vegetation to get a bit overgrown in the warmer months.

Getting there: The reserve is on Chifley Drive, reached easily via Gordon Street or Raleigh Road. Street parking is available directly along Chifley Drive. It also connects straight onto the Maribyrnong River Trail, so it works well combined with an on-leash walk along the river.

Expect the busiest stretches on weekend mornings and weekday evenings between about 5 and 7pm. Early mornings or early afternoons are quieter and give nervous dogs more room to settle in.
