Scovell Reserve is a medium-sized, community-focused off-leash park at 45 Scovell Crescent in Maidstone. Its large grassy sports oval gives running and fetch dogs genuine room to stretch out, making it a practical, no-fuss choice for inner-west owners who want open space without the crowds.
What's there. The reserve centres on a broad sports oval used for cricket and soccer, which doubles as an excellent off-leash running ground. A sports pavilion sits at the edge of the reserve, and the wider parkland includes picnic tables, public BBQ facilities and a nearby playground with a mix of fenced and unfenced sections. There are no gates restricting access, which keeps entry and exit straightforward.
The rules. Off-leash freedom applies within the designated zone, but Maribyrnong City Council requires genuine voice control at all times. This is a non-fenced off-lead area, so recall has to be reliable before you unclip. Dogs must stay on-leash within 10 metres of the playground and picnic areas. Bring your own poop bags and follow standard waste-removal requirements.

Getting there. Street parking is typically available along Scovell Crescent or adjoining streets. Local bus routes run along Ashley Street and Mitchell Street, each a short walk to the reserve. A wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible parking are available on-site.
When to go. The reserve opens 24/7 with no gates, giving you flexibility for early morning or evening walks. Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings tend to draw bigger crowds of locals socialising their dogs, so expect more activity then. Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings and Friday evenings are reliably quieter. Midday is generally the calmest window if your dog prefers a low-key outing.
Good for active, recall-solid dogs and owners who want open oval space without travelling far. If you are after a post-walk feed or drink, both Moon Dog Wild West in Footscray and Charles & Gamon in Seddon are a short drive away.
