Cranwell Park Dog Off Leash Area

Cranwell Reserve's dog off leash area sits on the Maribyrnong River in Braybrook, a large open reserve with sloping grass, river views and a busy shared trail along its northern edge. It is a designated off lead space under City of Maribyrnong rules, and it suits dogs with solid recall rather than bolters, because this is not a fully enclosed compound.

The dog setup

Expect open space rather than an enclosure: the reserve runs down to the riverside trail on one side and up towards the playground, BBQ shelter and picnic areas on the other. Check the signage at the gate on each visit, since council updates its off lead maps from time to time.

The rules here

Maribyrnong's off lead rules apply: keep your dog in sight and under effective voice or hand control, and make sure it returns immediately when called. Dogs are prohibited from the playground at all times and must be on lead within thirty metres of the playground equipment. Carry a physical lead on your person, with a maximum three metre lead outside the off lead zone, and leash up on the shared river trail. Clean up and use the bins, and leash and remove any dog showing aggression straight away.

Getting there and parking

The reserve fronts Cranwell Street in Braybrook, on the Braybrook side of the Maribyrnong River, with street parking around its edges. Tram route 82 runs along Raleigh Road nearby, making it one of the more realistic car free dog walks in the inner west.

The vibe

Weekend mornings and weekday evenings after 5pm are the busiest windows, while weekday mid mornings stay quieter and give a reactive dog more room. The riverbank turns muddy after rain, and the rocky crossing nearby is best avoided when the water is up.

Close by with the dogs
