Mapleton Dog Park

Mapleton Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash enclosure in the Lilyponds parkland, right in the middle of Mapleton on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. For a town where most walks are on-lead along range roads, a secure run with a double-gate entry is the main reason locals keep coming back. The enclosure sits away from Delicia Road traffic, with shade trees, seating and open grass for a proper run.

The dog setup

The fenced area is the off-leash zone. Sunshine Coast Council rules apply: dogs run free inside the enclosure under effective voice or hand control, wear their current registration tag, and go back on the lead everywhere else in Lilyponds Park, including near the playground and picnic spots. Regulated dogs are not permitted in off-leash areas. Bins are provided for droppings, and council asks that dogs are vaccinated and sociable before they join the run. Inside there are ramps and rails that double as easy agility, natural shade from established trees, and room to spread out even when a few dogs are in.

The vibe

This is a local neighbourhood park rather than a destination ground, and mornings and late afternoons are the social windows when people drop in before and after work. Mid-morning and early afternoon are quieter if your dog prefers space. The wider Lilyponds parkland is handy beyond the fence: picnic areas, a playground, a skate park and walking paths, so families can pair a dog session with a full outing. Hinterland afternoons stay cooler than the coast, which makes the shaded run a sensible stop on warm days.

Getting there and parking

The park sits in the Lilyponds area at 10 Delicia Road, Mapleton, and the dog enclosure is commonly reached from the Neloway Crescent side, with free parking close to the gate. Mapleton has no rail line and limited bus services, so plan to drive. It is roughly 20 minutes from Nambour up the range, and the turn-off is well signed once you are in town.

Pepsi: The shade and open ground make this a good midday stop when the coast beaches are baking. Bring your own water bowl to be safe.

Close by with the dogs

If you want another fenced run on a Mapleton day out, Muller Park Reserve in Bli Bli is a fully fenced option with double-gated entry and water stations, about half an hour east. Petrie Park Dog Off Leash Area in Nambour works well on the way up or down the range, and the Nambour Dog Agility Park adds equipment for dogs that need more than a run. After the park, the dog friendly Mapleton Public House is an easy walk from the Lilyponds end of town for lunch on the deck.
