Stannard Road Park Fenced Dog Park

Stannard Road Park is a fully fenced off-leash dog park at 63 Stannard Road in Manly West, a quiet residential pocket off Wondall Road under Brisbane City Council rules. It is a compact enclosure of just over a thousand square metres rather than a sprawling reserve, and that is the appeal: a calm, contained space that suits reactive dogs, recall training and small dogs who get flattened at the big parks.

The rules

Dogs can be off leash inside the fenced area but must be leashed through the parkland outside it, and council supervision rules apply either way. The double gates exist to stop bolters, so latch the outer gate before you open the inner one. Puppies without full vaccinations, unwell dogs and declared dangerous dogs are not permitted in council off-leash areas.

Bag dispensers and bins are provided, so pick up straight away. If a dog turns aggressive, the council expectation is to leash up and leave.

What's there

The essentials are covered: a water bubbler, a bench for owners, scattered shade trees and lighting for evening visits, and it is generally quiet and well kept. There is no agility equipment and no separate small-dog run, so the single enclosure is shared.

Max: a fenced double-gate park like this is the best place to proof recall. Get in early while it is empty, reward the come-back, and finish before the regulars arrive.

Getting there

The park is reached via Wondall Road, with residential street parking along Stannard Road, and buses on Wondall Road cover it if you are walking in. Weekday and Sunday mornings are the quiet windows, and late afternoons and evenings draw the after-work crowd.
