Alcyone Hotel Residences is an apartment-style hotel on the Hamilton riverfront, a few minutes from Brisbane Airport and the Northshore precinct. It takes pets in designated apartments, with the catch that it is set up for small dogs: the limit is 12kg, one pet per apartment, and nothing happens without written pre-approval from the hotel before you book. Reviewers consistently rate the river views, balconies and self-contained kitchens.

Dogs at the Alcyone

Small dogs and cats up to 12kg are accepted, one per apartment, and you must contact reservations and get written approval before booking rather than turning up and asking. A non-refundable deep-cleaning fee of $40 per night applies, capped at $150 for longer stays. The hotel also sells a Pamper Your Pooch package at an extra $35 per night on top of the cleaning fee, which includes a dog bed, blanket, bowls and a goodie bag. Pets must be carried through common areas at all times under the body corporate by-laws, they cannot be left unattended in the apartment or a vehicle, and the level 3 recreation deck is off-limits to pets entirely. Confirm the current fees when you book.

The setting

The apartments sit on the riverfront at Hamilton, with the riverside walkway at the doorstep for on-lead leg-stretches along the Brisbane River. It is an airport-adjacent location, so expect some flight noise in exchange for the convenience. Because the dog rules come from the body corporate as well as the hotel, they are enforced rather than discretionary, and the written conditions you receive with approval are worth reading before arrival so there are no surprises at the desk.

Close by with the dogs

The Bayswater and Ascot river trails run along the river toward Ascot for a proper on-lead walk, and Old Shoreline Park's fenced dog park is the closest off-lead option. A short drive or river crossing away, Newstead Waterfront Dog Park adds another fenced run by the water. For coffee, Yellowish is the local Hamilton favourite.
