Lower Eltham Park Off Leash Dog Park

This is the off-leash precinct at Eltham Lower Park, on the corner of Main Road and Hohnes Road, listed here under its alternate name. The setup is the same well-used site: a fully fenced southern oval for secure off-leash running, an unfenced northern oval, and the always-off-leash open space at Lenister Farm south of Homestead Road, all framed by mature shade trees.

The rules. Use the fenced southern oval for dogs still learning recall; it has gated entry. The northern oval is off-leash only when no sport or training is on. Keep your dog leashed within five metres of shared paths, and note that dogs are banned at the two playgrounds (Eltham Lower Park and Eltham Copper Butterfly) and the Pines Picnic Site. Across the shire, the leash limit on shared trails is three metres.

What's there. Fenced oval with double-gate entry, fresh water taps and bowls, waste bins and bags, shaded seating, and dedicated parking within the sporting precinct.

Getting there. Drive in off Main Road; parking is ample within the precinct. Eltham Station on the Hurstbridge line is roughly a 20 to 25 minute walk or a short bus along Main Road.

Nearby with the dogs. Second Home on Brougham Street runs a relaxed dog-friendly courtyard a short drive away, and the Diamond Creek Trail links off the park.

When to go. Weekend mornings (8 to 11am) and weekday evenings (4.30 to 6pm) are busiest; Tuesday to Thursday mid-morning is quietest. In summer, use the perimeter shade. Good for confident dogs after a proper run.
