Seaton Park

Seaton Park sits on Fletcher Road at Lesmurdie in the Perth Hills, bordered by Lesmurdie Road and Kaolunga Way. It is a City of Kalamunda designated off-leash exercise area, and the appeal is simple: a generous open grassed section where a dog can sprint and play ball, plus a creek line and playground for the rest of the family.

Leash status

Dogs may run off-lead across the reserve but must stay under effective control the whole time, held by someone physically capable of controlling them, and you are required to carry a leash on you at all times. This is an unfenced suburban reserve shared with other park users, so recall matters more than it does at a fenced dog park. Clean-up is strictly enforced by expectation; there is a doggy bag dispenser and bin on site, but bringing your own bags is wise.

Pepsi: open grass like this is built for fetch. Bring a long-range throw toy and use the full width of the park to tire me out properly.

Water and terrain

A natural creek runs through the grounds, giving dogs a paddle option, with shady trees around the edges and concreted paths suitable for prams and wheelchairs winding through the reserve. Benches dot the park for breaks. There is no dedicated dog water fountain listed, so carry water, particularly in summer when the Hills heat up.

Getting there and parking

Turn off Lesmurdie Road or Crystal Brook Road onto Fletcher Road; a small gravel and bitumen car park sits on site with street parking nearby. Transperth buses run along Lesmurdie Road if you are coming from further afield without a car.

When to go

Mid-morning on weekdays is the quietest window. School drop-off and pick-up times and weekend afternoons bring families to the playground, so aim early if your dog needs calm space. A focused 30-minute ball session uses the space well.

While you're out there

The Lesmurdie Brook Loop adds a proper bushwalk nearby, and the Jorgensen Park Walk Trail at Kalamunda covers old golf fairways and creekside bush a few minutes away. For an overnight base in the hills, Quiet Escapes at Mundaring takes pets.
