Lesmurdie Brook Loop

Lesmurdie Brook Loop is a 1.9 km easy circuit in Mundy Regional Park, part of Lesmurdie Falls National Park in the Perth Hills, about 22km (30 minutes) east of Perth CBD. It follows the brook past bridges and handcrafted seats, with views towards Lesmurdie Falls, and takes most walkers 30 to 60 minutes at a relaxed pace.

The walk. This is a Class 2 loop, meaning easy going with a modified, hardened surface, gentle hills and the occasional step. No bushwalking experience is needed. It suits an easy family outing rather than a workout, and there are no bicycles, motorbikes or horses to dodge along the way.

The rules. Dogs are welcome on lead throughout the trail. This is confirmed with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) - Parks and Wildlife Service, who manage the park. There's no documented no-go zone for dogs here, but keep the lead on the whole way, both for the rules and for footing near the brook.

Water. There's no drinking water on the trail, so bring enough for yourself and your dog, especially if you're visiting on a warm day.

Hazards. Rocks near the water get slippery when wet, so supervise your dog closely around the brook and falls. Fallen gumnuts and other bush debris can also make the path slippery underfoot. It's Perth Hills bushland, so snakes are possible in warmer months, general caution rather than a specific park warning.

Getting there. Two car parks off Falls Road serve the trail: the upper car park near the top of the falls, and a lower one at Palm Terrace, Forrestfield. Public transport out this way is limited, so a car is the practical option. Toilets are at the Falls Road picnic area, with shaded picnic tables at the main car park.

When to go. June to November is the best window, when the brook is flowing and the wildflowers are out. With only a handful of reviews so far, this stays a quiet option rather than a crowd-puller. Good for nervous swimmers who'd rather admire the water from a lead than get in it.
