Kingscliff's off-leash area is a wide, sandy stretch of South Kingscliff Beach, an open eastern-facing ocean beach with room for dogs to run and swim, backed by dunes and close to town. Access is via Sutherland Street toward the Casuarina end.
The rules. This is a Tweed Shire Council off-leash zone, which means effective control, not a free-for-all: your dog must return the moment you call, and you must carry a lead at all times. Clean up after your dog and use the bins at the access points. Off-leash applies only to the designated section, so check the signage, the adjoining beach runs on-lead and some stretches near wildlife nesting sites are closed to dogs. Dangerous, menacing and restricted breeds are not permitted in off-leash areas.
The water and terrain. Open surf, not a sheltered swim. Low to mid tide gives the most sand for a run; high tide narrows the beach and pushes dogs together. Read the surf before letting a keen swimmer in.

Getting there. From the Pacific Highway take the Kingscliff exit toward the coast, then follow Marine Parade south to Sutherland Street. Free street parking and a free car park sit near the end of Sutherland Street, with walking paths over the dunes. The coastal path from the town centre also gets you here on foot or by bike.
Nearby with the dogs. Dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating line Marine Parade a short way north for a post-beach coffee, and several holiday parks and rentals around South Kingscliff and Casuarina take dogs, confirm before you book.
When to go. Early mornings before 9am and weeknight evenings are quietest, weekend mornings the busiest. Aim for low to mid tide for the most room. Good for confident beach dogs and strong swimmers, less so for nervous dogs on a big surf day.
