Corowa Park Dog Exercise Area

Corowa Park's dog exercise area sits on the banks of the Tweed River at Chinderah, a flat open field of riverside grass that serves as the suburb's designated off-leash space. It is a simple park with a strong setting: water views, foreshore access and room to run, five minutes from the M1 Pacific Motorway exit, which makes it a useful leg-stretch stop for travellers as well as a daily haunt for locals.

The dog setup

Tweed Shire Council lists the park as an off-leash exercise area during daylight hours, with dogs under effective control and a leash carried. The enclosure is currently unfenced or only informally contained; council has a concept plan for a full upgrade with a fenced off-leash area, double-gate entry, accessible paths, formal off-street parking, bench seating, a drinking fountain with dog bowl and waste bag dispensers, but the works have been reconsidered through community feedback and the timeline has moved. Check on-site signage for what has landed before you rely on any of it, and treat the space as an unfenced river park until the fence is visibly real. Waste bins sit on site, though bringing your own bags is sensible.

The vibe

Quiet and local. This is a riverside reserve rather than an attraction, and most users are Chinderah regulars at predictable hours. The riverbank edge can turn to mudflat at low tide, which waders will find irresistible and owners will find in the car. Shade is limited to the tree lines, so summer mornings beat midday.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at the corner of Chinderah Road and Terrace Street, with access along Chinderah Bay Drive. Street parking is available nearby while the formal off-street parking remains on the council's plan. Everything is flat and easy walking for older dogs.

Close by with the dogs

KK's Coffee Kart is the local coffee fix, and Chinderah Village Tourist Caravan Park is close by if you are staying in the area with a dog. For a fully fenced alternative, John Baker Reserve at Banora Point is a short drive south, and the Kingscliff Dog off leash area covers the coastal side.
