Mockingbird

Mockingbird runs out of a converted old house at 4 Seaview Street, a block back from the Kingscliff beachfront, and the front garden does most of the work: most of the seating sits outdoors under shade, which makes it one of the easiest dog set-ups on the Tweed Coast.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor garden and footpath seating, with big umbrellas and enough space between tables that a dog lying flat is no problem. Water bowls are available and staff are relaxed about visiting dogs - regulars treat it as the local dog-cafe meet point. The garden is planted and shady, so mid-morning in summer stays comfortable.

Pepsi: the garden tables have room to park a lead without it snaking across a walkway, which is rarer than it should be.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs 7am to 2pm every day of the week, on a breakfast-and-lunch menu with generous portions. The chilli scrambled eggs are the dish people come for, and there is a genuine run of gluten-free and vegan options including scrambled tofu and falafel plates. Coffee, smoothies and cold-pressed juices fill the rest of the board. Weekend mornings get busy; the residential setting still keeps it calmer than the Marine Parade strip.

Getting there and parking

Seaview Street sits just off Marine Parade, with street parking on the surrounding blocks that fills on weekend mornings - come early or walk in from the beachfront. The beach path and Cudgen Creek are both short walks away for an on-lead leg-stretch after.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash session, Kingscliff Dog Off Leash Area is close by. Choux Box and Shiny Brew are other dog-friendly tables around town.
