Shiny Brew

Shiny Brew is a small, busy cafe in the heart of Kingscliff at Shop 5/32-34 Marine Parade, one street back from the beach and set up to take dogs on the way past. It opens early, 6am to 1pm every day, which makes it a natural first stop on a beach walk with the dog on lead.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco and footpath seating out front, which suits a walk-up order with a dog in tow. Staff are accommodating and will often bring water out, but carry your own bowl to be safe. The footpath strip is close to the road, so pick a table toward the shop side with a dog that is still learning café manners.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen turns out a hearty breakfast list: the bacon and egg roll is the signature order, with eggs benedict, corn fritters, breakfast burritos and raisin toast with homemade marmalade all getting named by regulars. There is a kids menu, and the chilli relish has its own following. It runs busy but friendly, and weekends fill quickly.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Marine Parade is limited, with more off-street parking a short walk away; arrive early on weekends. Kingscliff is about 20 minutes south of Tweed Heads on the NSW north coast.

Make a day of it

Kingscliff Beach and the Marine Parade walk are an easy stroll for a post-coffee lap on lead, and Kingscliff Dog Off Leash Area is the local spot for a free run. For a swim, Pottsville Dog Beach is a short drive south. If you are cafe-hopping, Mockingbird is the suburb's other strong coffee stop.
