Arch Gibson Reserve is a large, unfenced 24-hour off-leash park on Dunne Street in Kingsbury, bordered by Darebin Creek. The open, rustic grass gives dogs plenty of room to run, but the lack of fencing means it only suits dogs with reliable recall.

The rules. Dogs must be under voice or hand control at all times. Carry a lead and put your dog on-lead outside the designated area. Stay at least 10 metres from any playground. Dogs must not chase wildlife along the creek, and you need to carry your own waste bags.

What's there. There are no water taps, bins or bag dispensers on-site, so bring water and bags. Shade and seating are limited. Street parking is available on Dunne Street and Boldrewood Parade.

Getting there. Access is off Broadway or Preston Street, with parking on Dunne Street near number 181 or on Boldrewood Parade. The Route 86 tram on Plenty Road is the closest public transport, a short walk away, and the Darebin Creek Trail connects into the reserve on foot.

Watch-outs. The ground can be uneven or muddy after rain, the reserve is unlit at night, and the creek edge can attract snakes in warmer months.

No fencing and no bins here, so bring your own bags and water, and keep recall sharp near the creek.

Early mornings and late afternoons are busiest, especially on weekends. Weekday mid-mornings are quieter. Good for dogs that need a big open run and already listen well off-leash; bring a light-up collar if you're walking after dark.
